Cowley Lake water quality studies examined a number of parameters.
Water chemistry studies recorded information on temperature, conductivity, pH, turbidity (using a secchi disk) nitrates, and dissolved oxygen. Data has been collected throughout the study period and throughout different seasons. Data collected has been entered in the Cowley Lake data base. Some parameters, such as dissolved oxygen, show dramatic seasonal change. The chart below shows categories for data collection.

Analysis of aquatic macro invertebrate populations also have provided insights into the lakes water quality. These have been take from both plankton drags and from benthic grab samples. Samples were identified and linked to water quality parameters.
The file below provides a dichotomous key for macro aquatic invertebrates and a related reference for water quality.
